Learning To Sail In New York City

April 28, 2015 by Gregory Smith Leave a Comment

Learning To Sail In New York CityHave you ever wanted to learn to sail? Do you live in New York City? Being surrounded by water and ocean breezes, you would imagine NYC must be the perfect place to learn to sale!

You would be correct if that thought crossed your mind. NYC boast a wide variety of sailing options for both beginners and experts to enjoy. So whether you are looking for someone to show you the ropes, or looking for a veteran to go sailing with, you should have no problem.

Below is our list of the best sailing clubs in NYC. All of these clubs are known for being the most reputable clubs and have policies that make it extremely easy for new members to get involved and start to blend in. This makes it extremely easy to join in on the fun without feeling awkward or feeling like an outsider.

Hudson River Community Sailing Club

The Hudson River Community Sailing Club tends to be extremely popular because of their “open arms policy”. They do their best to make sure that they accept anyone in with open arms no matter what their experience level is. This helps ease the tension of starting something new and exciting without feeling like an outcast.

This sailing company offers a large array of courses for youth and adults looking to learn how to sail. From after school and summer programs, all the way to academic level learning, they offer it all. If you are looking for Sailing Lessons in New York City, then this is the place to go.

Offshore Sailing Club

This club offers unlimited access to day sailing and encourages members to participate 7 days a week. They actively work to get anyone involved as much as they are willing to participate on any level. They are always open to new members and will get you started right away.

One of the benefits of joining this club is that you will have access to their fleet of Colgate 26 sailboats. These boats are specifically designed to work with novice sailors.

Manhattan Yacht Club

This Yacht club has been providing sailors with access for over 30 house-owned sailboats since 1987. They are a sight to see when they are out in the harbor in full force.

The premium club will provide you with fully inclusive course that will teach you everything you need to know about sailing. Once you learn how to sail, they will also provide you with racing and daily cruise trips if you are interested.

Atlantic Yachting

Atlantic Yachting will provide you with the perfect combination of lessons, day camps, and even private charters. The private charters are known to be one of the most romantic trips you can take in NYC. They can provide just about anything to do with sailing that you could possibly want.

They are well known for the professionalism of the schooling they provide. Atlantic Yachting works very hard to structure their teachings in the best way possible.

You Should Check Out These 4 Manhattan Sailing Schools

Have you ever been interested in sailing lessons or just want a club to belong to? One that includes other people with the same interest and passion of sailing that you have yourself? Well, you’re in luck. I’ve put together a list of some of the best places to learn to sail in New York City.

There are plenty of different Manhattan Sailing Schools around New York City. Some include lessons for the most beginner sailors, while others are clubs that have experienced members that can teach you a lot about your hobby. Regardless of your reasons – here are some of my favorite Manhattan Sailing Schools.

Manhattan Yacht Club:

This club was established in 1987 and is one of the most premium clubs in the city. Once in, this club offers lessons to beginners, teaching them how to sail as well as the sailing culture. This is one of the most sought after clubs in the city, but it is well worth the time and investment to get in if you plan on making this a lifelong hobby.

Hudson River Community Sailing:

This club is one of the more popular clubs in New York City that offer sailing lessons. The real upside to choosing this club is that they offer academy style education and really isn’t that exclusive. Hudson River focuses on teaching passionate sailors a hobby, as opposed to trying to maintain their clubs exclusivity. If you’re a complete beginner looking to take sailing lessons with like-minded individuals, this may be the best choice for you.

Atlantic Yachting:

Atlantic Yachting offers sailing lessons, private charters and even day camps for those looking for a quick rundown in the hobby of sailing. Their private charter service is sought after for a romantic evening on the Hudson in New York City. This club takes a more professional approach on the subject of sailing which many prefer. During your sailing lessons at Atlantic Yachting, you will learn all the basic of sailing to include rigging, docking, hosting sails, knots and tackling.

Offshore Sailing Club:

This Manhattan sailing school and club is very beginner friendly. They offer beginner classes that span over three day long session and will teach you what you need to know to get out on the water. Advanced courses are also available for those looking to expand their sailing skill set and move forward in the hobby.

However, the Offshore Sailing Club isn’t just a sailing school. It also offers unlimited day sailing for those looking for a nice day out on the water. This is an excellent choice for those looking to join a nice, fun, beginner friendly club and is a highly recommended Manhattan sailing school

So there you have it. This is my personal list of some of the best places to get Sailing Lessons NYC. No matter if you’re a beginner or the most advanced sailor on the sea, you can find a home in one of these four Manhattan Sailing Schools. Take your time, conduct your interviews and pick the one that’s right for you and your family as this is a hobby that can be passed down from generation to generation.
